YES! Exactly--the sentence you wrote about individuation above says it all. It's infuriating. I love the idea of turning it into a series; I think especially as I immerse myself more in the practices throughout the school year, there will be a lot of specific information to dissect in relation to how it gets practiced/coopted/bastardized. I think it says so much about Western culture and society that even the traditions intended to garner compassion and community get twisted into this self-serving garbage. I'm frankly very tired of people invoking "self-care," regardless of its woo-ness in order to justify and even glorify selfishness. And I say that knowing that all of us absolutely NEED space and time to process and heal and be. But buying new yoga pants and competing with people for the "purest" tiny body award hardly qualify.
But I think you are absolutely right, this is not a Q problem, it's an all of us problem. Q is just another symptom. Very well put.
