UNREAL. I am sick and disgusted and not even surprised to hear this.

But you are spot on, and I maybe should've been clearer in the article that I don't expect any safety or solidarity in people on the right; living in rural America was a uniquely terrifying experience singularly because of rightwing Christians, and I would never choose to align myself with or suggest their reality would be safer for us (I am so tired, so I do hope I conveyed that in this essay!!).

My heartbreak is more for the left because it's still where I am aligned, despite everything. And the rationalization based on social justice hits worse for me than the one that is predicated on "faith" (hatred and ignorance), though the outcomes of both are the same for us.

Sending you lots of solidarity and love. I hope your loved ones are safe in Israel. Appreciate you holding this space for us on here.
