True, it's deeply irrational -- although I don't know that a lot of it is unconscious. The unconscious element I think is more relating to people's deep-seated misery and gravitation towards conformity and a collectively accepted politic of "goodness" (or righteousness) so they don't actually need to think about how much they hate themselves and how existentially lonely they are (and why they're looking for both a scapegoat and a salve for that).
But still, to me it is cathartic to definitively say what it is, even if it doesn't convince non-Jews. I would like the facts in one place, in case it either helps another Jewish person articulate the case, or just to feel seen and understood.
