Spot on. It’s funny, i was listening to an old Jack Johnson album this morning from I think 2008-ish, and there was a line “shocking awful thing to make people think they have to choose, pushing for peace or supporting the troops.” I was like… damn. It really is a persistent binary in this culture that causes us to vilify a lot of the people who most directly stick their necks out on the line so that the rest of us can feel safe. And yes to your point, I think it ebbs and flows but *equilibrium* is exactly what we need to restore. It’s important to have pushback and advocacy, but there shouldn’t be definitive, dehumanizing labeling of entire groups of people — especially not the ones who sacrifice their bodies for public safety, which is a privilege to enjoy. And it’s relative of course, but it’s still there. Any person of any race would most likely call the cops if their kid was abducted… and that would probably be the only way to get justice and bring them home. Like why is that lost on so many of us? Too much absolutism. It’s just not good for the soul or critical thinking
