Max, you have a problem with extrapolation. When I say you’re projecting, I squarely mean that taking personal offense to the mentioning of an example of someone with mental illness having unreconciled trauma as if the invocation was a clear jab at YOU is precisely the issue here. Not everything is about you! All of us may have insecurities that make it feel like everything everyone says is about us, but alas, it’s untrue.
When I said your reaction to my piece was more about your complicated and clearly at least somewhat angry personal feelings than an issue with something that I wrote (because again, reread your own commentary. I never said that converts were not real Jews. I said they are not ethnic Jews, and this upset you to the point where you needed to make passive aggressive jokes on my article), I wasn’t saying you have mental illness or that it rained on your wedding day (did it? Perhaps you thought I was psychic. Would it bother you if I told you sometimes I am? 😹).
I was saying that an emotional reaction of that nature, compounded with the continuous projection in your responses, is indicative of your own grappling with uncomfortable concepts. And in that sense, again, it’s not about me or really even anything I’ve said… perhaps a bit it about the way I’ve said it, because as you’ve said, my writing is generally strong and it’s hard to ignore incisive points, even if you’ve conceptually dismissed an idea for a long time (such as the idea that the descendant of many people killed in the Holocaust for not being white may not be considered “white” even 80 years later, even after earnestly feeling generally assimilated and accepted into that designation for one’s entire life).
Alright, that last part was about you. The rest of what I wrote was not! I like to cast a wide net of literary devices and employ different metaphors and examples and citations that help build understanding for complex concepts. That doesn’t mean I’m being passive aggressive and trying to find creative ways of insulting you. You will know if I’m trying to insult you or accuse you of something, trust me. I can be very spicy and it’s not typically couched in anything when that comes out lol
