I mean, I don't think the obsession with race in America is weird at all, because racism is literally an integral part of the founding of this country (specifically against Natives and Black people), and there really hasn't been enough of a reckoning -- tribal lands are often infertile and undesirable, and Black people never received something akin to reparations after being enslaved for generations (which gave non-Black people who enslaved them effectively a head start on the accumulation of generational wealth that affords wealthy people the most power and opportunities in this country).

I think it's fair to say the vilification of certain races is out of control and ridiculous and weird. But I don't think the focus on race itself is weird, when the foundation of the country itself was very literally justified on racial (and religious) underpinnings.
