Because they are in the past. And unless there are statues of them dotted all over every town like slaveowner of yesteryear, that would seem incredibly pointless. We live in the present, let us come to terms with and move forward from what is or isn’t happening now.
Cancel culture isn’t real. Even Louis CK still sells out on tour and Mel Gibson gets cast in big movies. Unless you literally go to jail like Harvey Weinstein you’re not “cancelled.” Most of us never get paid $20 million for a one hour comedy special to be put on one of be largest platforms on earth and it’s honestly weird the allegiance to the same old faces having impunity to be on there forever no matter what they say or do or whether or not they refuse to move their humor/work forward with the times.
Most comedians of the last century wouldn’t be funny or famous today and that’s okay, maybe ask yourself why you think someone DESERVES to be worshipped eternally even if they’re unqualified and there are literally millions of people funnier than them that deserve the chance to show their work. Is it because you did something that you’re afraid of being held accountable for?
